Cooked Italian Artichoke... Scrumptious!

Artichoke The Violetto From Italy
The famous Italian artichoke. Hardier than Green Globe, and the sepals have a purple coloring, which also makes the plants even more ornamental. It's a wonderful addition to the ornamental food garden. Very small buds can be steamed and served whole, but larger ones will need to have the sepals, thistles, and hearts separated. Cooking two minutes or more turns the sepals greens.
