Italy's competition regualtor is investigating pasta manufacturers over alleged price fixing. In September consumer groups staged a pasta strike to protest against rising food prices. They claim that after a meeting of the major pasta producers in Rome prices rose by 20%. Denying that they are operating a cartel, manufacturers argued that they are merely pasing on the rising cost of durum wheat, from which Italian pasta is made.
